Newly-crowned Prague champion Petra Kvitova’s emotional homecoming to the J&T Banka Prague Open sees her rise to the No.4 spot on the Porsche Race to Singapore.
Newly-crowned Prague champion Petra Kvitova had an emotional return to her home tournament at the J&T Banka Prague Open.
She claimed her third title of the season with a victory over Mihaela Buzarnescu in the final, dropping just one set in a run which included wins over Zhang Shuai, fellow Czechs Katerina Siniakova and Tereza Smitkova, as well as on-the-rise Russian Natalia Vikhlyantseva.
“It was my first tournament at home since everything and playing in my home club was pretty special,” Kvitova told reporters in Madrid.
“My parents spent the time with me in my apartment all week. After many years we spent the whole week together. We didn’t argue or anything! It was great. My mom spoiled me.”
Kvitova’s hometown heroics gave her a boost on the Porsche Race to Singapore as well, rocketing her up two spots to sit at No.4 on the Leaderboard.
She’s not the only one who made a big jump after last week; while the Top 3 remain unchanged, Rabat champion Elise Mertens rose to the No.6 spot - bumping Garbine Muguruza out of the Top 8 in the process.
